Create Catalog Item in ServiceNow

Creating a catalog item in ServiceNow is relatively easy and can be done independently by users with an Admin role. This is one of the key advantages of ServiceNow compared to its competitors—its intuitive interface and user-friendly design make building and managing catalog items straightforward.

Follow the steps below to create a new catalog item using the Catalog Builder:

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open Catalog Builder

  • From the left navigation menu, go to All ? Catalog Builder.


2. Create a New Item

  • Click the Create New Catalog Item button.


3. Choose a Template

  • Select a template or choose Empty, then click Use This Item Template.


4. Navigate Through 7 Tabs

The catalog creation process consists of 7 tabs:

  • Details

  • Destination

  • Location

  • Questions

  • Settings

  • Access

  • Review & Submit

5. Fill in the Details Tab

  • Provide the Item Name and a Short Description.

  • Upload an image using the Attach File option.

  • Click Continue to Location.

6. Set the Location

  • Choose the appropriate Catalogs, Categories, and Topics.

  • Click Continue to Question.

7. Add Questions

  • Click Insert New Question to add any necessary user input fields.

  • Once done, click Continue to Settings.

8. Configure Settings

  • Adjust the following options as needed:

    • Hide Add to Cart Button

    • Hide Save as Draft Button

    • Hide Quantity Selector

    • Hide Delivery Time

    • Hide Attachment Button

    • Make Attachment Mandatory

  • Click Continue to Access.

9. Define Access Rules

  • Specify criteria for users allowed or not allowed to view and use the catalog item.

  • Leave blank if you want the catalog to be accessible by all users.

  • Click Continue to Fulfillment.

10. Assign Fulfillment Flow

  • Enter the name of the previously prepared Flow for item fulfillment. Or you can use this article to create a Catalog.

  • Click Continue to Review and Submit.

11. Review and Submit

  • Double-check all the information you've entered.

  • When ready, click the Submit button.

12. Done!

Your new catalog item is now live and visible in your ServiceNow instance.
