Author: Agus Budi Harto, 2025-08-20 13:45:32

In early 2021, Mr. Yoseph embarked on a transformative mission at one of the largest coal mining companies in the region, employing over 35,000 people. As the Head of the CIS Division—leading a team of more than 150 professionals—he brought with him a rich background in global IT, including experience at industry giants like IBM. Over the past five years, his leadership has driven a series of impactful improvements across three core dimensions: People, Process, and Technology.
1. People: Building a Stronger Team Culture
Mr. Yoseph’s leadership philosophy centers on people. His first initiative was a series of one-on-one conversations with key team members, aimed at understanding their perspectives, challenges, and aspirations. This personal engagement helped foster trust and laid the groundwork for meaningful change.
He introduced several strategic initiatives to strengthen the team:
- Third-party assessments to evaluate individual strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT), ensuring optimal role alignment.
- Organizational restructuring, including the creation of a new department to better balance workloads and enhance operational efficiency.
- Employee of the Month program, designed to recognize outstanding contributions and inspire excellence across the team.
- Centralized communication via a single WhatsApp group, promoting transparency and enabling real-time problem-solving.
- Rotation of remote area staff, encouraging knowledge sharing and equal exposure to diverse operational environments.
These efforts not only improved morale but also cultivated a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous growth.
2. Process: Breaking Silos and Enhancing Collaboration
Recognizing the importance of cross-functional synergy, Mr. Yoseph implemented a weekly calendar of mandatory meetings for key personnel. These sessions became a vital platform for collaboration, allowing teams to share challenges, request support, and align on strategic goals—effectively dismantling operational silos.
His proactive engagement with external auditors, including those appointed by software vendors, streamlined compliance processes and improved audit readiness. Leveraging his global experience and professional network, he ensured that communication with external stakeholders was both efficient and effective.
3. Technology: Driving Modernization and Efficiency
Under Mr. Yoseph’s leadership, the company’s IT infrastructure underwent a significant transformation:
- Data center consolidation, merging previously separated environments for production and development to simplify management.
- Migration to cloud infrastructure, reducing operational costs related to space, electricity, and cooling.
- Cloud-based Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), replacing costly physical infrastructure with scalable, resilient cloud solutions.
- Standardization of laptops, transitioning from a variety of expensive models to cost-effective, modern devices with features like touchscreens.
- Upgrade to dedicated internet access, replacing ambiguous shared solutions with reliable, high-performance connectivity.
These technological advancements not only optimized costs but also enhanced agility, scalability, and security across the organization.
A Strategic Leap: ERP Transformation
One of the most notable milestones under Mr. Yoseph’s leadership was the transition from Ellipse to SAP as the company’s core ERP system. This strategic move modernized enterprise operations, improved data integration, and positioned the company among leading SAP adopters in the industry.
Conclusion: A Legacy of Impact
Mr. Yoseph’s five-year journey is a testament to visionary leadership, strategic execution, and a deep commitment to organizational excellence. His contributions have reshaped the IT landscape of the company, empowering teams, streamlining processes, and modernizing technology. While this article offers just a glimpse into his achievements, it reflects the profound and lasting impact of his leadership.
